A good vehicle awning gives you shade, rain cover and a place to cook and sit at camp. Rocky Mountain Tents makes several Rainwick awnings, and the names can be confusing. Here are the questions we hear most, answered with the specs from our listings. Browse them all in our awnings collection.

What is the difference between the 180° and 270° awning?
The 180° awning gives large side coverage along one side of the vehicle. The 270° awning has a wraparound design that gives you a larger covered area around your vehicle. Both are mounted, free-standing designs with lightweight aluminum extruded arms, rip-stop fabric and included attachable legs for extra support.
What makes the 270° MAX different?
The MAX is slightly bigger than the standard 270° because it has an additional fold-out section that extends over the vehicle's front doors. It is listed as setting up and taking down in about 30 seconds, and includes 3 color LED light strips and attachable legs, strings and spikes for extra stability.
How big is the 270° awning?
The 270° Rainwick listing gives coverage dimensions of 5'11" x 8'6" x 8'10" x 4'1" and a weight of 55 lb. Check the product page for the latest numbers on the model you choose.
What about the side awning?
The Rainwick Side Awning is the most affordable and is designed as an add-on for rooftop tents or an extra shelter at camp. It installs directly into the T-slot of the tent rack and packs into a stowaway bag. It includes adjustable telescoping support poles and an installed LED light strip.
Do they have lights?
Yes. The 180°, 270° and 270° MAX include LED light strips along the brace bars, and the 180° and MAX list 3 color strips. The side awning has an LED strip installed too.
Will it fit my roof rack?
The 180°, 270° and MAX awnings are listed as mountable on most roof racks. Check your rack type and message us before ordering if you are unsure. See our roof rack selection for compatible options.
Driver side or passenger side?
The 270° and 270° MAX are sold for either the driver side or the passenger side, so pick the side you want your shade on. The 180° and side awning list one option.
Can I add walls?

- 270° MAX walls: $649.99
- 270° walls: $579.99
- 180° walls: $399.99
- Side awning walls: $399.99

- Shade along one side: the 180°.
- More coverage around the vehicle: the 270°.
- Most coverage and extras: the 270° MAX with its extra door section and 3 color LEDs.
